Hello Bays members. I hope everyone enjoyed your summer break. If you are new to the Bays United community – WELCOME! If you are a returning player – WELCOME BACK! The 2017/18 soccer season is here, so it is a good time to share some important news and club updates.
New General Manager:
I am very pleased to announce the hiring of Darryl Hooker as Bays United new General Manager. In this role, Darryl will be responsible for leading all administrative aspects of the club’s operations to ensure that programs and activities are efficient, effective and meeting the needs of our membership. This new position will fill a gap in club operations that has always been difficult to satisfy from the volunteer base.
Darryl has a very long history of the club, is well known to many and has built a strong reputation as a natural leader. His extensive knowledge of the club, his skills in business and marketing and his deep love of the game will serve Bays United well. Darryl officially stepped into the GM role on Friday, September 1st, and can be reached via: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please join us in welcoming Darryl!
At the Annual General Meeting on June 21st, the Bays United Board of Directors membership was confirmed. This included the departure of three Board members, the continuation of 12 members and the addition of six new members. While I had planned to step down as President at the AGM, I agreed to stay on as we transition into our new leadership model. The new Board met recently and I’m excited to see their enthusiasm and energy to keep the club moving forward. Special thanks to outgoing directors Edward Wong and Will Lloyd for their valuable contributions. To review the list of current members, visit our Board Contact page.
The Important Role Parents Play:
Whether you are coaching, managing a team, volunteering your time to support the club or simply spectating at games it is important to know the vital role parents play in maintaining and enhancing their children’s love of sports. Before the 2017/18 season begins, please take some time to read the information on our Parent Information page. Together we can develop positive players who value teamwork, sportsmanship and a love of the game.
Video Surveillance at Oak Bay Turf
The Greater Victoria School District plans to install video surveillance on the all-weather turf field at Oak Bay High in an effort to prevent unauthorized use and prevent vandalism. The District will be holding an information meeting on September 12, 2017 at 7PM at Oak Bay High School. Please read the full notice from the School District. On behalf of Bays, I will be writing a letter in support of video surveillance.
I am pleased to announce that Campus Auto Group has signed a corporate sponsorship agreement with Bays. The agreement provides funding for Bays programming and in return, Bays offers visibility to Campus in support of community engagement with youth sports. You will see the Campus logo on our House t-shirts and club website, as well as their involvement at certain Bays events. We hope to expand our sponsorship initiatives in order to help the club maintain momentum on field development and programming.
Share Your Photos and Success Stories:
We are always looking to share stories and images on the Bays website and Facebook Page. It is an important way to build community, see our friends in action and share our love of the game. If you have news or images you’d like to share please send to Communications@baysunited.ca.
It’s going to be a great season. I am personally looking forward to working with Darryl as he transitions into his new role, and our newly formed Board – but I’m most looking forward to seeing everyone out enjoying the beautiful game. Good luck to all!
