Two Bays Players Off to Europe
Two Bays United players will train with premier clubs in Europe this August, thanks to the generation adidas international Select program. Making the trip of a lifetime are Reid Thompson, who is off to Madrid, Spain to train at the Real Madrid Foundation, and Ella Hayes, who will travel to Lyon, France to train with Olympique Lyonnais.
Olympique Lyonnais Féminin is among the most successful teams in Europe and is a true powerhouse in European football. They have won 13 Div. 1 Féminine championships in a row. Lyon boasts a record 17 Div. 1 Féminine championships, 10 Coupe de France titles and 6 UEFA Women’s Champions League titles. In addition to being trained by Olympique Lyonnais academy coaches, Ella will play in international friendly matches against Academy teams and receive individual evaluation from the coaches – an opportunity presented to few players worldwide.
Reid Thompson will have the opportunity to experience the culture of soccer at one of the most prestigious men’s programs in the world – Real Madrid. Having won 33 La Liga titles, 19 Copa del Rey titles, and a record of 13 UEFA Champions League titles, Real Madrid is one of the most successful clubs in men’s soccer, both nationally and internationally. Thompson will experience elite level development through specialized training with academy coaches, international friendly matches against academy teams, and individual evaluation.
Bays United Technical Director Eddie Mukahananais excited that our players have been chosen for this unique developmental opportunity. “Both Ella and Reid are gifted athletes who put in the time to train and continually work on their technical skills,” said Mukahanana. “It is so great to see their hard work recognized in this way.”
For over ten years, generation adidas international has partnered with premier adidas clubs to develop youth soccer at the international level through its Select programs. This August talented players are invited to train at the Real Madrid Foundation, A.F.C. Ajax, and Olympique Lyonnais, three of the world’s most powerful soccer clubs. The Select program is built to introduce participants to the life of a professional youth player, while immersing them in the unique local culture of the sport. This experience is an amazing opportunity for participating players to learn first hand what it takes to play at the best club in the world.
